about wp
"We were looked after exceedingly well. Communication was excellent, prompt and useful. Excellent briefing on arrival, congenial and relaxed, with an early introduction to the house wine. We really enjoyed the way the notes were written – it added significantly to our enjoyment of the walks."

The new Walking Plus is part of 'Ardikas - Paros Hikes' Social Cooperative Enterprise (KOINSEP), which is monitored by the Greek Ministry of Labour & Social Security and operates on the principles of social economy, therefore placing emphasis not on profit but rather on benefiting employees and serving the communities it operates in. Its other branch is Paros Hikes, which offers exciting walking, cycling & cultural tours on Paros & Antiparos.

Other members include Lambros Hatsilarkos, former WP route manager & ex-high-school English teacher on Paros, who is responsible for our Walking Plus Greek language & culture program, and Arsenia Chanioti, icon-painter and hotelier, who also guides our walking tours and runs a hiker-friendly pension on Paros (see LINKS).

WALKING PLUS...   is the oldest and the only local walking tours operator in the Cycladic islands of Greece, and also the first to offer self-guided walking holidays. It was founded in 2002 by British couple Gilly and Robin Cameron-Cooper, who have lived in Greece full-time and still spend a good part of the year on Naxos. Robin is ex-Army (hence the navigation skills essential for plotting the self-guided routes) and Gilly is a journalist and author/editor of illustrated reference and travel books (her writing forms the basis of our self-guided notes, so they are clear, easy-to-follow and interesting to read). In March 2017, the whole Walking Plus operation was transferred to 'Ardikas - Paros Hikes', a cooperative based on the island of Paros, who have updated most aspects of the operation and added new services.

Christoforos Korovesis is the manager of Walking Plus and the founder of walking & eco-tours company Paros Hikes established in 2013 (see LINKS). He is an English Literature graduate who left an Athens career in communications and moved to his ancestral Paros to do what he likes most: walking in (and showing others) the authentic and largely undiscovered side of the Cyclades he remembers from his childhoold. His knowledge of Cycladic routes and nature aside, Christoforos is a trained and experienced Eco-Tours Escort (South Aegean Prefectural Administration) and a certified First Aid Provider. Apart from excellent English, he speaks French, Italian and basic German. His other interests include writing & photography.

Panos Psichogios, our route manager on Amorgos, is a farmer, landlord and professional walking guide. A native of the island, he is passionately involved in sustaining its cultural and environmental integrity, and particularly interested in the island flora.

Gilly Cameron-Cooper remains as our route manager for Naxos, her years of experience in jointly running Walking Plus and expert knowledge of the island's ways, nature and culture ensuring a great self-guided holiday for our guests. Gilly speaks English and French.

Charlie Merlin is an experienced walking & climbing guide and professional chartographer. He lives on Tinos for most of the year and provides the back-up there as our local route manager. Charlie is Greek-Austrian, and speaks Greek, German and English fluently.

"Christoforos is knowledgeable and friendly, giving insight into the island's geography, flora & history. If you like getting off the beaten path, following medieval roads & footpaths across hilltops and through rugged valleys, you will enjoy the tours."
-  Lynn Thiesen, Canada

"Charlie was very helpful, always available, great relationships with locals."

- Ian and Brianna Swan, Hong Kong

WALKING PLUS is registered with www.responsibletravel.com.

WALKING PLUS aims to introduce guests to the natural, cultural and social environment of the locations where it operates, to increase guests' knowledge and appreciation of Greece, and to encourage them to take positive steps in conserving vulnerable natural resources and minimising damage to the environment.

We live and work in a beautiful, culturally important and relatively unspoilt part of Greece, where a traditional rural way of life persists. We want our customers to share this experience, to introduce them to local people & their traditions while having the least possible adverse effect on the environment.

We aim to provide a healthy, relaxing and enjoyable holiday, and expect our customers to acknowledge that they are respectful guests in Greece. Being local, we are dedicated to promoting the welfare of our environment, preserving our Cycladic heritage, and serving as a sustainable development paradigm to local communities, throughout the year.

“Walking Plus is an excellent venture.”

– John & Mary Jane Messenger,
customers 2007 & 2008 & 2009
